Glauber Gluons and Multiple Parton Interactions

چکیده
We show that for hadronic transverse energy ET in hadron-hadron collisions, the classic Collins-Soper-Sterman (CSS) argument for the cancellation of Glauber gluons breaks down at the level of two Glauber gluons exchanged between the spectators. Through an argument that relates the diagrams with these Glauber gluons to events containing additional soft scatterings, we suggest that this failure of the CSS cancellation actually corresponds to a failure of the ‘standard’ factorisation formula with hard, soft and collinear functions to describe ET at leading power. This is because the observable receives a leading power contribution from multiple parton interaction (or spectator-spectator Glauber) processes. We also suggest that the same argument can be used to show that a whole class of observables, which we refer to as MPI sensitive observables, do not obey the standard factorisation at leading power. MPI sensitive observables are observables whose distributions in hadron-hadron collisions are disrupted strongly by the presence of multiple parton interactions (MPI) in the event. Examples of further MPI sensitive observables include the beam thrust B a,b and transverse thrust.

A look at the influence of the J/ψ transverse momentum on shadowing
Stringent physical constraints relate the J/ψ produced at a given transverse momentum pT to the Bjorken-x of the initial gluons. We present a new approach which takes them into account in order to explicitely investigate the pT -dependence of the shadowing effect on the J/ψ production. Using the J/ψ rapidity and pT spectra extracted from √ s= 200 GeV p + p data from PHENIX, we build a Glauber M...
متن کاملJet quenching phenomenology from soft-collinear effective theory with Glauber gluons.
We present the first application of a recently developed effective theory of jet propagation in matter, soft-collinear effective theory with Glauber gluons (SCET_{G}), to inclusive hadron suppression in nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC and the LHC. SCET_{G}-based splitting kernels allow us to go beyond the traditional energy loss approximation and unify the treatment of vacuum and medium-indu...
متن کاملNon-equilibrium initial conditions from pQCD for RHIC and LHC
We calculate the initial non-equilibrium conditions from perturbative QCD (pQCD) within Glauber multiple scattering theory for √ s = 200 AGeV and √ s = 5.5 ATeV. At the soon available collider energies one will particularly test the small x region of the parton distributions entering the cross sections. Therefore shadowing effects, previously more or less unimportant, will lead to new effects o...
متن کاملGluon Density in Nuclei
In this talk we present our detail study ( theory and numbers ) [1] on the shadowing corrections to the gluon structure functions for nuclei. Starting from rather contraversial information on the nucleon structure function which is originated by the recent HERA data, we develop the Glauber approach for the gluon density in a nucleus based on Mueller formula [3] and estimate the value of the sha...
متن کاملAn interpretation of saturation phenomena as Glauber-Gribov multiple parton scatterings
We compare two formalism that describe minijet production in pA and AA collisions: pQCD supplemented by Glauber-Gribov multiple semihard parton scatterings (pQCD+Glauber), and the Colour Glass Condensate (CGC). We argue that in a suitable limit they are equivalent to each other, the PQCD+Glauber model being more accurate from a numerical point of view. Finally, we analyze RHIC data on Au-Au int...
